There are several basic things you need be clear about before your kitchen design takes shape.
Kitchen size - one size does not fit all
The first thing that needs to be done is sizing up the amount of space you have to work with. This will help determine how many cupboards, drawers, shelves and appliances you’ll be able to incorporate into your new kitchen.
Think about how you use your kitchen
Have a clear sense of how your kitchen will be used. Consider things like how often you cook. Do you entertain a lot? Maybe you need specific gourmet cooking facilities. Do you need extra bench space? Is it often used as a place for work or family activities? How many people use the kitchen at once?
Will you be using existing services, or will you need new ones?
When imaging your new kitchen design, think about where your services are positioned – power points, water and waste pipes, and the gas outlet, if you have one. It’s a lot easier and cheaper if you use them as they are currently positioned. Which brings us to one of the most important considerations - your budget...
Your budget
It’s important to have a clear budget for your kitchen design. This will help you determine how much you have available to spend on each component. You may be able to make savings on cupboards and drawers that can be used for upgraded appliances, for example. You might find our kitchen pricing guide a useful place to start the thought process.
