Why do I need a SPLASHBACK?

You may be asking why you even need a splashback in your kitchen.  Well the purpose of a splashback is to protect your kitchen walls from steam, grease, oil, water and other cooking liquids and food that often 'splash' up onto the kitchen wall directly behind your cook top.  If you didn't include a splashback in your kitchen design you would risk damage to your wall.

Splashback options

There are so many options available to you for your kitchen splashback.  You can choose from stones, metals, glass, tiles and many more.  Here we are going to take a quick look at six options that you may like to consider for your new kitchen design.

Tiles

Tiles are a classic and contemporary choice for any splashback.  They are easy to keep clean, offer a range of colours, styles, designs, textures and shapes.  You can match tiles to your flooring or go for something a little more outrageous.

Glass

Glass is another poplular choice.  When using glass you have the option of toughened and mirrored.  You can also select from a range of colours which you can use as a feature for your kitchen and even tie it into the colour theme for the rest of your home.  Glass will show more cooking marks however it is also easy to wipe clean.

Stainless steel

Stainless steel is the choice for most industrial or commercial kitchens because it is hard wearing and easy to keep clean.  It is also very hygienic as it is one smooth surface with no joins or grout to collect food.  Stainless will also show up your cooking spills but with the right cleaning products it is fairly easy to clean up.

Vinyl or Laminate

Vinyl and laminate are now being used in splashbacks to provide that seamless kitchen look.  You can continue the same design of your kitchen cabinets through to your splashback wall.  These too are materials that are easily cleaned.

Brick

For a classic, farmstyle or industrial look you may select brick as your splashback material.  This can look amazing in a designer kitchen.  Brick is hard wearing but not that easy to keep clean.  You should also consider sealing your brick to protect it from food stains.

marble

If you are designing a luxury kitchen or you want to add a touch of elegance to your kitchen then consider using marble for your splash back.  It is easy to keep clean and can be installed in one piece making it an option to eliminate bacteria as there are no joins or grout for the build  up of food or spills.  Marble comes in a range of colours including; whites, greys, blacks and a combination of these.

I thought it was interesting how you said that glass splashbacks show more cooking marks but are easy to wipe and clean. My wife has been wanting to renovate our kitchen so that she can throw more dinner parties for our friends. It may be beneficial for us to find a company that can help us install some glass splashbacks in our kitchen.

Thanks for helping me learn more about splashbacks. I actually didn't know that this could be made out of glass and still pick what color the glass is. This sounds useful if you want to make sure the splashback matches the aesthetic or the rest of the kitchen.

That is nice that you could have a toughened glass splashback or a mirrored. It would be nice to have a toughened glass splashback in my kitchen. This way, I would be able to have something that is easy to clean the marks and such off of.
